Post-Brexit, UK travellers lost the EU roaming cap, and plenty got the bills to prove it. Uswitch have spent 25 years telling people what things actually cost. Adding travel eSIM meant selling a mobile product rather than comparing one, and they had no intention of becoming a mobile operator to do it. Breeze built the co-branded eSIM site, with the eSIM Go platform underneath.
Launched in June 2024 as Uswitch eSIMs Powered by Breeze, it made Uswitch the first UK comparison website to sell travel eSIMs. Two years on, it’s still running, and still growing.
Why the comparison site got there first
Uswitch have saved UK customers over £2.7 billion in 25 years, and they built that on making complicated markets legible: energy, broadband, mobile, SIM only. They’d also campaigned for years for stronger roaming protections, so when networks reintroduced roaming charges, Uswitch were already where people went to complain about the bills.
The alternative on offer was a physical SIM from a kiosk after landing, bought with no real information about price, coverage or quality. eSIM solved that. But in 2024, most people still didn’t know what an eSIM was. Uswitch had a market moving in an obvious direction and an audience already asking the question. What they didn’t have was a mobile product, and building one was never the point.
What Breeze does in the middle
Breeze are an eSIM Go Solutions partner. They build co-branded travel eSIM sites for travel brands, so anyone with an audience can sell travel data under their own name without running a mobile product, negotiating wholesale, or staffing support for it.
This was Uswitch’s first significant third-party integration in mobile, which made it a proof point inside the business as well as a product launch. Uswitch treated go-live as the start, not the finish. Performance monitoring and feedback loops have run with Breeze ever since, tuning the product around real travel corridors and real wholesale rates.
“The performance and rankings in search we’ve seen, the feedback we get from consumers, and the recurring usage and top-ups all prove we’ve successfully introduced a product serving a latent need we were early to diagnose.”
Ernest Doku, Commercial Director (Telecoms), Uswitch
Co-branded on the front, tier one underneath
Uswitch never signed an international wholesale contract and never hired a telecoms team. Their readers get a purchase journey that carries the Uswitch name alongside Breeze, plans they can compare before they fly, and coverage across 190+ countries on tier one networks.
The numbers did the arguing
First-mover advantage turned into real growth. Uswitch’s travel eSIM posted 117% growth, against an industry average of 25%. Recurring usage and top-ups followed, along with strong search rankings for a product category most people couldn’t name two years earlier. For a business built on doing right by customers, it held up: a competitive travel data product that saves people money, launched without becoming a telco to do it.
